We push OSHA 10 and 30 as a floor, not a ceiling. Affiliate safety directors run coordinated stand-downs on the hazards that actually kill people in this trade: falls, struck-by, caught-between, electrocution and heat.
About the Council
A delegate body of 14 affiliated local unions, chartered to represent the skilled construction workforce of Nashville and Middle Tennessee.
Our mission
Raise the standard on every jobsite in Middle Tennessee.
We exist so that building this city is a career, not a gig — and so that the people who own and build here get work they never have to worry about.
The Nashville Building & Construction Trades Council is a voluntary federation. Each affiliate sends delegates who meet monthly to set common policy, coordinate across trades, and act together on the issues no single local can carry alone: prevailing wage enforcement, apprenticeship funding, workforce development, project labor agreements, and jobsite safety.
We do not negotiate our affiliates’ collective bargaining agreements — each local does that with its own contractor association. What the Council does is make 14 separate organizations function as one workforce on a jobsite, and one voice in the public square.
“An injury to one is an injury to all” is not a slogan on a jobsite. It is a safety policy, a training program, and a reason the person next to you stops you before you make the mistake. The building trades tradition
What we do
Four jobs, every day
Training & apprenticeship
Every affiliate runs a registered apprenticeship funded jointly with its contractors. The Council recruits into those programs, supports pre-apprenticeship pathways, and keeps the pipeline full for the decade of work ahead.
Advocacy
We show up at Metro Council, the Planning Commission and the General Assembly for responsible bidder standards, prevailing wage, apprentice utilization on public work, and wage-theft and misclassification enforcement.
Community
Veteran accessibility builds, disaster response, school career fairs, charitable projects with our signatory contractors. We live in the neighborhoods we build.

Delegate meetings
First Thursday, every month.
Delegates from all 14 affiliates meet at the Council hall to report from their locals, hear from signatory contractors and public officials, and vote on Council business.
Meetings begin at 6:00 PM. Members of any affiliated local are welcome to attend; contact your business manager for delegate credentials. Agendas and approved minutes are distributed to affiliates in advance.
